Dharamshala: The 16th Annual School Heads’ Meeting of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS) was successfully concluded this evening at Norbu House in Dharamshala.
The valedictory ceremony was presided over by Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration as chief guest. Director of STSS Tsering Dhondup and STSS Deputy Director Tenzin Nagdon also attended the ceremony, along with 30 participants consisting of principals and head teachers from various Sambota schools.
The ceremony began with remarks from Tsering Dhondup, who read out a joint declaration of resolutions that were outlined during the three-day meeting.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering, in his keynote address, stressed the importance of the 16th Kashag’s vision paper- Securing Tibet’s Future, which serves as an impetus to the path forward in seeking a long-term peaceful resolution of the Sino-Tibet conflict whilst fulfilling the needs of the Tibetan community in exile. Sikyong noted that there has been a drastic change in the education system and that it is of utmost importance to work accordingly while employing advanced education technologies to educate young Tibetan minds. He furthermore expressed gratitude towards His Holiness the Dalai Lama and elder generations of Tibetans for their invaluable contribution and effort to further Tibet’s cause.
The democratically-elected leader of the exiled Tibetan administration highlighted the principal goals of the three-day annual school heads’ meeting while noting the importance of effective implementation of the Basic Education Policy in Tibetan schools. Additionally, he stressed the significance of the demographic census prioritised by the 16th Kashag and data formatting to further a well-organised procedure.
In order to preserve the Tibetan language and culture in schools, Sikyong underscored strengthening cultural resilience among youths and prioritising young Tibetan students’ mental well-being. He specifically apprised the audience about SEE Learning, emphasising the promotion of secular ethics. Sikyong urged educators to work for the development of ethical intelligence for students.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering furthermore emphasised the gathering about proper execution of the set of resolutions outlined during the three-day meeting and implored them to work for overall progress in the Tibetan schools.
