Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, extended his warmest congratulations to Karnataka’s eight-time legislator, Shri D.K. Shivakumar, who was sworn in today as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka.
In his congratulatory message, Sikyong wrote, “Your elevation to the office of Chief Minister is widely recognised for your exceptional organisational leadership and development-oriented initiatives that stand as a powerful symbol of the aspirations of the people of Karnataka.”
Sikyong further noted, “Karnataka and the Tibetan people share deep historical and humanitarian bonds that have endured across generations. Following His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s arrival in India in 1959, the late Chief Minister Shri S. Nijalingappa played a pivotal role by generously allocating nearly 3,000 acres of land at Bylakuppe in 1960. This historic gesture created the first major Tibetan settlement in exile, allowing thousands to rebuild their lives and preserve their culture, a profound act of compassion deeply cherished by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”
Conveying his best wishes for a successful tenure, Sikyong concluded, “Just as the legacy of Shri Nijalingappa laid the foundation for a transformative era of compassion and growth, we are confident that your tenure will similarly benefit both the people of Karnataka and the Tibetan community. Under your able leadership, we look forward to the continued strengthening of our enduring friendship and mutual respect.”
