Sikyong Penpa Tsering arrived at the Calgary airport in the Canadian province of Alberta as the final leg of visitation before concluding his official engagements in North America, where he was greeted by the executive members of the Alberta Tibetan Association and community members on the evening of 16 February 2023.
Later in the subsequent day, Sikyong interacted with Tibetan youngsters in the region to apprise them of issues concerning Tibet and the Tibetan people and how the government of China is threatening the existence of Tibetan identity. He further urged youths to partake in V-TAG initiative of the Central Tibetan Administration.
In the evening, Sikyong addressed the Tibetan community of Alberta at the auditorium of Calgary Downtown Kerby Centre. The gathering was also attended by former Tibetan Chief Justice Commissioner Kargyu Dhondup and a few other former CTA civil servants and officials.
Sikyong highlighted the determined efforts of concerned Lawmakers in enacting the bipartisan and bicameral Tibet Bill in his public address. Furthermore, he briefed the undertakings of the 16th Kashag and its political and administrative schemes for the coming years, which includes plans for the sustenance of Tibetan settlements and empowerment of CTA staff, among others.
At the same time, Representative Dr Namgyal Choedup and the President of the Alberta Tibetan Association also spoke at the event.
