Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile released a series of seven books on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s speeches and writings at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) on Sunday, 27 March. Tibetan Parliamentarians from Europe Venerable Thupten Wangchen and Thupten Gyatso were the other guests at the book launch. The books are translated and compiled by the Tibetan Translation and Research Institute.
Speaking at the book launch, Sikyong Penpa Tsering applauded the Tibetan Translation and Research Institute for translating the speeches and writings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama from English into Tibetan and compiling it into books. He also spoke about the importance of cultivating qualified and competent translators, and advised the institute to work more in that regard. He said if the institute can cultivate more competent translators, it will not only enhance the capacity of the individual but also enhance the productivity and quality of any project that one undertakes.
Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel said that His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision and aspirations can be gauged from the speeches and writings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Therefore, he said that, these books which are a translation and compilation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s speeches and writings is a great resource. Lauding the efforts of the institute, he urged them to continue their good work and hopefully expand the scale and scope of their translation works in the future for the benefit of the general public. Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel further advised Tibetan students to read books on His Holiness the Dalai Lama irrespective of whether the books are directly related to their school syllabus or not.
