
Antwerpen, Belgium, 17 May 2026: The Belgium-based Regional Global Tibetan People’s Movement for Middle Way Approach successfully organised its 5th workshop for Tibetan youths in Belgium on Sunday at the Radisson Hotel in Antwerpen,Belgium with 57 participants attending the programme held from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The workshop focused on introducing participants to the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the evolution and significance of the CTA’s Middle Way Policy, and the life and legacy of His Serenity the 10th Panchen Lama, including discussions on the current status of the 11th Panchen Lama.
The programme commenced with an opening address by the organisation’s president, Lhamo Dhondup, who underlined the importance of organising such workshops for Tibetan youths in Belgium to strengthen awareness and understanding of important Tibetan issues and policies.
The first session was conducted by former Middle Way member Lobsang Tsultrim, who delivered a detailed presentation on the life and legacy of His Serenity the 10th Panchen Lama. During the session, he also highlighted that 17 May 2026 marks 31 years since the 11th Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, was taken into custody by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The session further addressed concerns regarding his continued disappearance and current status, while emphasising the international community’s ongoing calls for transparency and his immediate release.
Secretary Thinley Wangdue from the Office of Tibet, Brussels, led the second and third sessions. He provided participants with an introduction to the Central Tibetan Administration and explained the evolution of the CTA’s Middle Way Policy, including its achievements, outcomes, and future direction.
Secretary Thinley Wangdue also briefed participants on the recent European Union resolution on Tibet, noting that the Office of Tibet, Brussels actively reached out to Members of the European Parliament to encourage them to sponsor and support the resolution. He highlighted key issues addressed in the resolution. In addition, he presented key points of the newly enacted Chinese law on promoting ethnic unity and progress, set to be implemented on 1 July 2026, noting its potential implications for Tibetans both inside and outside Tibet.
The workshop concluded with an interactive quiz competition organised by former Middle Way President Tsering Dhondup. The quiz covered the main themes discussed during the workshop, encouraging active participation and engagement among the attendees. Winners of the competition were awarded T-shirts and scarves.
The organisers expressed appreciation to all speakers, volunteers, and participants for contributing to the successful completion of the workshop.
