Geneva: The Geneva Tibetan Association in Switzerland pre-celebrated His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birth on 28 June 2025 at the Geneva Sunday Tibetan School.
The event was graced by Representative Thinley Chukki from the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, Parliamentarian Dorjee Tseten of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, and a representative of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein (TCSL). Staff members from the Tibet Bureau also attended the celebration.
Following the opening remarks by the President of the Geneva Tibetan Association, Representative Thinley Chukki delivered a formal address, extending her heartfelt greetings to His Holiness on the auspicious occasion of His 90th birthday. She encouraged members of the Tibetan community in Switzerland not to be disheartened by the recent challenge regarding the display of His Holiness’ images and quotations in Swiss subways, which was part of the Association’s Ghoton programme. She stated that such initiatives often rely on the interest and cooperation of external stakeholders. Nonetheless, she earnestly urged parents and community members to remain steadfast in nurturing the Tibetan language, culture, and heritage among the younger generation.
Representative Chukki also presented awards and prizes to students from the Geneva Sunday Tibetan School who had participated in the 10th Tibetan Language Day, held in Zurich on 14 June 2025.
Parliamentarian Dorjee Tseten, in his remarks, highlighted the vital role of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in leading and representing the Tibetan community in exile. He emphasised its importance in preserving Tibetan identity and advocating for the Tibetan cause on the global stage.
The event concluded with cultural performances by students and parents from the Geneva Sunday Tibetan School.
The successful organisation of the event was made possible through the efforts of Geneva Tibetan Association President Phurbu Tsering, Vice President Pema Ghomay Dechog, and members Doenkar Tso, Rinchen Gyaltsen, and Sonam Dawa.
