
Taipei: The inaugural ceremony of a practice session for basketball tournament in His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s name was held by the Taiwan International Tibetan-Chinese Dharma Culture and Education Foundation under the direction of the Office of Tibet, Taiwan in Nantouxian, Gaoxing. Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen Bawa attended the inaugural ceremony and briefed the gathering on Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Also in attendance, were head of Gaoxing Xiang Zhang, the headmaster of Gaoxing Xiang Middle School, religious head of Taiwan International Tibetan-Chinese Dharma Culture and Education Foundation nun Tenzin Jamchoe, the director-led sponsors of the foundation, and participating children aged between 12-16 years old making up a total of 70 children.
The aim of organising such an initiative is to promote the noble ideals of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which is the education of children in basic ethical conduct and secular ethics. In addition, it was to be used to organise a future tournament in the Dalai Lama’s name.
The organisers donated a sum of 200,000 TWD for this project. As part of the three-day event, the participants received practice in saying grace, evening prayers, and meditation with the objective of planting the seeds of compassion in children.
The Taiwan International Tibetan-Chinese Dharma Culture and Education Foundation was founded by its religious head nun Tenzin Jamchoe. She had lived in the United States for a long time. In 2022, facilitated by the Office of Tibet she had arrived in Dharamshala to receive an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. After returning to Taiwan, she founded the organisation as per her vow to His Holiness and intends to initiate many such activities in support of Tibet in the future.
