Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering on Wednesday addressed a group of students from Nepal-based Namgyal High School who were on an educational tour to Dharmashala.
During the hour-long interaction with the students at the Kashag Secretariat, Sikyong implored them to shoulder more responsibility than ever for serving the cause of Tibet, giving back to the community, and above all, to honour every hardship, struggle and sacrifice braced by the His Holiness the Dalai Lama led the older generation for the greater good of the younger generation.
“It is the collective responsibility of yours and mine generations to fulfil the long-term vision and aspirations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” asserted Sikyong. He then proceeded to introduce the group to the organisational structure and composition of CTA’s leadership and its Autonomous Bodies, acquainting them with the roles of each department, process involved in the election of Sikyong and the Kalons, the introduction and evolution of the Tibetan democratic system and its uniqueness compared to the system of other democratic governments.
Having gained recognition as the world’s most successful refugee community, Sikyong propounded that the youth must thoroughly study historical and political facts of Tibet including events that led to the exodus of His Holiness and Tibetans into exile, the rehabilitation and resettlement of then newly arrived Tibetans, the initial and the changing dynamic of the relationship with the host country particularly in the case of Nepal etc, adding that such oral stories are a crucial piece of information to be passed on to the next generation and so on.
“My generation has grown up listening to these stories from our predecessors, and now we, as the bridge between you and the older generation must pass down the oral stories to you so you become the connecting bridge to the next generation and so on to form the link between generations”, added Sikyong.
While in Dharamshala, the visiting students are said to visit Tibetan NGOs and civil society organisations.
