Shillong: Smt. Rinchen Lhamo, the Honorable Member of the National Commission for minorities undertook an official visit to Shillong. Upon her arrival at Umroi airport, she was accorded a warm welcome by Mr. Pema Dhondup, Tibetan Settlement Officer, Ms. Tsering Dolma, MP of Tibetan Parliament, Ven. Ngawang Palden, Abbot of Tibetan Buddhist monastery, Mr. Arup, Secretary of Shillong Buddhist association and dignitaries.
Smt. Rinchen Lhamo made a courtesy call on Shri. Satya Pal Malik ji, the honourable Governor of Meghalaya to offer greetings and salutations. At the same time, she appraised the honourable governor about her profound vision to create awareness about the welfare schemes for the minorities and to redress their grievances.
She received an audience with His Highness Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh and visited the Cathedral of Mary’s help. She met with the heads of different religious communities where she highlighted the objectives of the National Commission for minorities and various welfare schemes for safeguarding the interests of minorities.
Smt. Rinchen Lhamo visited the Tibetan Settlement Office and interacted with the Tibetan Community and applauded the community for their hard work towards the preservation of their language, culture and maintaining their identity. Furthermore, she reaffirmed that the Committee is committed to redressing the grievances of minorities and working for their welfare in every possible way.
