Dharamshala: This afternoon, the leadership and staff of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held a prayer session to mourn the passing of Secretary Jeshong Lobsang Tsultrim, who died last Sunday in Washington, DC, around 8:30 p.m. Cabinet Secretary Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi presented a brief biography of the deceased.
The officiating Sikyong Kalon Dolma Gyari and Cabinet Secretary Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi attended the prayer session. Tibetan Parliamentarians Ven Lopon Thupten Gyaltsen, Ven. Geshe Lharampa Atuk Tseten, and Tsering Yangchen also attended the prayer service.
Brief bio of the deceased:
Jeshong Lobsang Tsultrim was born to Tsewang Tamding and Nyima in Tibet on July 1, 1954. He completed his high school education at Mussoorie and earned a Bachelor’s degree from GCM. Following his graduation, he was sent officially to learn videography in England and the US.
The late Secretary joined the Central Tibetan Administration in the position of Senior Clerk on 16 August 1980 and was later appointed as permanent staff on 20 July 1981 at the Department of Information and International Relations. From there, he was transferred to Narthang Printing Press as its head and on 1 August 1992, he was promoted to Deputy Secretary. He was then promoted to Joint Secretary at the same department on 23 April 1996. He was later transferred to the office of the Election Commission and then to the Kashag Secretariat on 11 June 1997 and 11 June 1998, respectively. On 16 April 2003, he joined the Department of Information and International Relations as Additional Secretary and subsequently was promoted to Secretary’s position on 1 June 2007. Before retirement, the late Secretary served at the Department of Religion and Culture as its Secretary.
The late Secretary has also served as Editor in Chief of the Voice of Tibet for four years in Dharamshala.
He is survived by his wife and four sons.
