
Amsterdam: The Netherlands Tibetan Community came together to celebrate the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Amsterdam. The festivities took place over two days, 8 July to 9 July 2025, and were attended by around 1000 Tibetan across Netherlands.
The celebration began with the enthronement of His Holiness’ portrait led by local monks and community leaders. The President of the Netherlands Tibetan Community Norbu Tsering, addressed the gathering and cut the birthday cake, which was followed by the distribution of traditional Tibetan sweet rice.
Earlier, on 6 July 2025, the community had organised a main event at Dam Square, Amsterdam, featuring speakers from different religious communities, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. The event promoted interfaith harmony and understanding and included a Peace Cycle rally through the heart of Amsterdam. “A Lunch of Compassion” including Tingmo and Tsel-Momo was served during the event, promoting kindness and generosity.
The two-day celebration included numerous Tibetan circle dances and indoor activities, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Tibet.
The Accountant of the Office of Tibet, Brussels, Tenzin Nordhen, visited the event to collect Green book chatrel from the community. Around 300 people made their contributions, symbolising their commitment to the Tibetan cause.
The event was supported by ICT Netherlands and Tibet Support Group, Netherlands, who were present to show their solidarity with the Tibetan community.
The celebration was a grand success, bringing together the Tibetan community and promoting interfaith harmony, compassion, and kindness.
