London: Today on the 62nd Anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day, the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor Linda Bird, Deputy Leader Cllr. Danny Thorpe and the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration, Mr Sonam Tsering Frasi hoisted the Tibetan National flag outside the Woolwich Town Hall located in South East London.
The flag-raising ceremony held outside the Woolwich town hall was attended by Representative Sonam Tsering Frasi. Few local Tibetans also attended the event from the distance due to the current Covid regulations of only one person can meet another outside.
Mr Frasi, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Northern Europe, Baltic States & Poland thanked the Mayor and the Deputy Cllr. for supporting the Tibet and Tibetan by hosting the Tibetan Flag at the Woolwich Town Hall on this important day.
Mayor Councillor Linda Bird expressed that she felt it was important to support the just cause of Tibet and all other oppressed people anywhere in the world. The Mayor assured that the Royal Borough of Greenwich will continue to support for Tibetan people.
She greeted the local Tibetans who came to attend the ceremony from distance.
This is the second flag-raising in a row on 10 March at Woolwich Town Hall. The board members of the Greenwich Tibetan Association (GTA) has been following up with the Mayor office to make this an annual event of the Mayor Office.
