Bylakuppe: The Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner of the southern region, Phuntsok Palden, conducted a legal awareness campaign for around 32 residents of Lugsung Samdupling Tibetan Settlement on 25 June followed by at Dekyi Larso Tibetan Settlement on 27 June for around 60 residents.
Following a brief introduction about the Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner by the representatives of Tibetan settlements during the legal awareness campaign, Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner Phuntsok Palden proceeded to apprise the participants about the evolution of Tibetan democracy in exile and the powers and responsibilities of the three pillars of the Central Tibetan Administration. They were also elucidated on the Tibetan Justice Commission’s code of judiciary and its organisation and jurisdiction. Furthermore, informed the public about the Code of Civil Procedure’s principal law and provided a detailed guideline on the different types of evidence, admissibility of evidence, the veracity of witnesses, examination of witnesses and the standard of proof. Pamphlets were also distributed and queries from the participants were answered during the session.
