
Dharamshala: According to a circular issued by the Kashag (Cabinet) on 26 November 2025, Additional Secretary Dhundup Gyalpo—who is currently the secretary at the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi—has been appointed as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to South Africa at the Office of Tibet in Pretoria.

In accordance with Article 19(1) of the Public Service Commission’s rules and regulations, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Offices of Tibet is to be appointed by the Kashag in the presence of the Sikyong and the Kalons (Ministers). Therefore, Additional Secretary Dhundup Gyalpo is hereby appointed as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Office of Tibet in South Africa.
Brief Bio:
Dhundup Gyalpo was born 24 January 1975 in India. After completing his schooling from Shimla (1994) and college (BA Eco. Hons) from Chandigarh University (1997), he formally joined Tibetan civil service in January 2000. He also studied Chinese in Taiwan for two years (2007-09).
Over the past two decades, he has worked as the incharge of health education and media section of the Health Department (2000-04); editor of TibetNet/Tibetan Bulletin (2004-07); research fellow at the Tibet Policy Institute (2012-14); and secretary of the Office of Tibet in Taiwan (2014-18).
Since October 2019, he has been serving as the secretary of the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi.
