Tokyo: After the fruitful completion of hectic and busy schedules for a week in Tokyo, Kalon(Minister) Norzin Dolma of the Department of Information and International Relations(DIIR) returned to Delhi on the morning of 17 July 2023. Representative Dr. Arya Tsewang Gyalpo, Tselha of the Tibet House Japan, and Kalden Obara, former President of the Tibetan Community Japan saw Kalon off at the airport.
Here are some of the major achievements of Kalon Norzin Dolma’s Japan visit. She met with the members of the Tibet Support Group in Japan and discussed with them the plans of the Central Tibetan Administration and sought their opinion and cooperation.
One important schedule was the meeting with Shimomura Hakubun, Chairman of the Japan Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet, and the members of the working committee of the group at the Japan Parliament building. Kalon Norzin Dolma thanked the Chairman and the members for their political and humanitarian support to the Tibetans. The Parliamentarians assured continued support and assistance and expressed great respect for H.H. the Dalai Lama and the goal of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Visit to the two universities and talks enabled the faculty members and the students to learn about the Tibet issue. Kalon thanked the Chairman and the faculties for educating young Tibetans and promised that they will play a great role in building Japanese resources in the Tibetan community.
Kalon Norzin Dolma gave an exclusive interview to Kyodo Tsushin News and addressed a press conference at Shinjuku Bunka Center, where more than eleven major and local media participated. Kalon briefed the media on the situation in Tibet, the status of the dialogue, Chinese policy, and expectations from the media. She released the book “Chibetto no Hanron”, a Japanese version of the book “Harnessing the Dragon’s Fume” by Representative Arya Tsewang Gyalpo.
Kalon gave a keynote address as the Chief Guest at the Second Mongol-Tibet Cultural and Religious Symposium at the University of Tokyo where more than 15 scholars spoke and presented papers. More than a hundred people participated in the symposium.
Kalon met with Takenaka from Osaka and discussed the possibility of nurturing and developing Tibetan workforce resources in Japan, where Tibetans with Japanese language proficiency could be further educated and employed in Japan.
On the last leg of her Japan tour, she met with the Tibetans in Japan at the Tibet House office in Nishiochiai, Shinjukuku. Kalon Norzin Dolma greeted the Tibetans and informed them of the purpose of her visit and expressed her satisfaction with the political, social, and educational interactions made during the visit and the positive results achieved. She advised the Tibetans not to forget our common goal and stay united.
