Santiago, Chile: Kalon Norzin Dolma, Minister of the Department of Information and International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration, arrived in Santiago, Chile, on 6 August 2025, to begin her maiden official visit as part of the Latin American tour marking the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
Kalon is accompanied by Jigme Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Latin America, and a delegation of three monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery in India, led by Geshe Tenzin Sangay.
Over the four-day tour in Chile, Kalon Norzin Dolma visited Valparaíso, the legislative capital of Chile, where she was received by the Chilean Parliamentary Friends of Tibet, led by Deputy Vlado Mirosevic Verdugo. A prominent parliamentarian and political scientist from the Arica and Parinacota Region, Deputy Mirosevic has been a consistent advocate for the Tibetan cause in Chile. He has played a key role in organising the Chilean celebrations of His Holiness’ 90th birthday and in strengthening ties between Chilean civil society and the Tibetan movement.
During a working lunch at the rooftop of the Parliament building, Kalon met with Deputies Vlado Mirosevic, Tomás Hirsch, Ana María Gazmuri, Luis Malla Valenzuela, and others, along with Fernando Salinas, President of Amigos del Tíbet, Chile. Kalon thanked the parliamentarians for their support and gave a briefing on the current situation in Tibet, particularly regarding His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation and the importance of international awareness and responsibility. She presented each guest with a commemorative 90th birthday pin, the book ‘Voice for the Voiceless’, and a scroll of quotations by His Holiness.
Before departing for Arica, Kalon Norzin Dolma also held a courtesy meeting with Liu Yu-chi, Head of Mission at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Santiago. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, both representatives shared reflections on the tragic cost of war and the value of peace. They exchanged mutual appreciation and discussed their peoples’ shared struggles and aspirations for freedom, democracy, and cultural preservation.
In Arica, the Tibetan monks from Drepung Loseling will create an Avalokiteshvara Sand Mandala and perform Sacred Music and Sacred Chants in celebration of the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This special program will be held in the presence of Kalon Norzin Dolma, Deputy Vlado Mirosevic, and the people of Arica. This event is part of an international commemoration tour organised by the Office of Tibet, Latin America. The Tibetan monastic delegation has been invited to undertake a three-month cultural and spiritual tour through Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico from 12 June to 12 September 2025, promoting Tibetan heritage and the universal message of compassion.
