
Kidwai Nagar, New Delhi: India Tibet Coordination Office participated in the celebration of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar 135th Jayanti (Anniversary) at Kidwai Nagar, New Delhi on 18 April 2026 themed “Education and justice are the future”. The programme was organised by Ramai Mahila Jagruti Munch, coordinated by Smt. Harsha Patil (India Tibet Friendship Society, Nagpur) in collaboration with Smt. Sujata Nandaswar (Delhi). Hosting was undertaken by Smt. Swapna Bhotwate, Karuna Meshram, Sweta Santakkey, and Smt. Vanmala Pantawane. The event commenced with prayer and floral offerings to the portrait of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, followed by introductory remarks from Smt. Sujata Nandaswar
The speakers were Smt. Kranti Khobragade, Director at Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, Shri T.J. Alone, Additional Director General, Archaeology Survey of India, Shri Surender Singh, Assistant Professor, Delhi University, Tashi Dekyi, Coordinator, India Tibet Coordination Office, New Delhi and Honorable Bhantay.
Smt. Kranti Khobragade, in her address to the gathering, highlighted how Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar inspired the community to rise against injustice and to lead lives grounded in dignity. She emphasised his unwavering commitment to the empowerment of women, particularly through education, underscoring his vision of social progress and equality. She urged the audience to engage with Ambedkar’s literature.
Shri Surender Singh highlighted on the contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in building India’s constitutional democracy, championing social equality, empowering women and marginalised communities, and offering farsighted economic and strategic vision.
Shri T.J. Alone delivered an insightful address on Ambedkar’s extraordinary life journey, marked by relentless struggle and academic excellence, acquiring more than thirty degrees. He underscored Ambedkar’s constitutional vision and his spiritual leadership in introducing Buddhism as a path of equality and compassion, and his transformative contribution in uplifting marginalised communities by guiding them towards dignity and empowerment through conversion to Buddhism.
Tashi Dekyi, Coordinator, India Tibet Coordination Office, introduced ITCO’s role and objectives. She emphasised that Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar has always been a source of strength and a respected role model for the Tibetan people. She recalled Ambedkar’s historic stand for Tibet in 1949, when he advocated recognition of Tibet instead of the People’s Republic of China.
She highlighted Ambedkar’s foresight in warning that China’s occupation of Tibet would pose a long‑term threat to India’s security, stressing Tibet’s role as India’s strategic buffer. She further underlined Tibet’s significance for India’s national security and global peace, affirmed Tibet’s historical independence, and appealed for continued solidarity from the people of India, noting that the Tibetan movement, rooted in truth, can only be strengthened through unity with Indian brothers and sisters.
The event witnessed the participation of over 100 attendees. It featured cultural performances, distribution of Tibet literature by ITCO, a drawing competition, and a quiz on the legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
