São Paulo, Brasil: The celebration of the 89th birthday of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, also recognised as the International Day of Compassion, was a remarkable event filled with joy, reverence, and deep admiration for His Holiness. The event commenced with a warm introduction by Jigme Tsering, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Jigme Tsering shared heartfelt updates on His Holiness’s health, reassuring all attendees of his well-being and continued dedication to his mission of spreading compassion and wisdom globally.
Following the introduction, a series of esteemed speakers took to the stage, each offering unique perspectives and reflections on the life, vision, and global influence of His Holiness. Prof. Lia Diskin, Shobhan Saxena, Walter Feldman, Eduardo Jorge, and Dr. Plinio Tsai captivated the audience with their insightful speeches. They spoke eloquently about His Holiness’s tireless efforts in promoting peace, compassion, and understanding across different cultures and nations. Their words highlighted His Holiness has profound impact on countless lives and emphasized the importance of continuing his legacy, especially his influence after four visits to Brazil.
In a symbolic act of reverence, Prof. Lia Diskin lit a lamp, a gesture that signified the illumination of wisdom and compassion that His Holiness brings to the world. This was followed by offering a traditional Tibetan scarf, known as a Khatag, to a photo of His Holiness, symbolising respect and good wishes for his long life and continued guidance by Shoban Saxena.
The celebration featured a grand cake, beautifully inscribed in Tibetan with wishes for the long life of His Holiness. The cake, a centrepiece of the event, was shared among the attendees, accompanied by a delightful array of Indian snacks, Chai, and traditional Tibetan tea. This culinary tribute added a warm and festive touch to the occasion, allowing participants to savour the flavours of His Holiness’s homeland and as the sons of India.
Daniel Sarmento, who graciously moderated the event, extended heartfelt thanks to all the speakers and participants for their presence and contributions. He acknowledged the collective efforts in organising the event and the shared commitment to honouring the legacy of His Holiness.
