Hebertpur: Tibetans under the jurisdiction of the Tibetan Settlement Office, Herbertpur, gathered on the white Wednesday in Lakhanwala Community Hall on 17 July 2024 and celebrated the approval of the “Resolve Tibet Act” into law. The Community expressed gratitude towards the people and Government of the United States of America. The newly passed law rekindles a ray of hope for the Tibetans.
The Tibetan Settlement Office, along with the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, organised the gathering. Former Kalon for Health Choekyong Wangchuk, Abbots of Gongkar Choede Monastery and Tsedup Lhakhang, the Chairman of the Local Tibetan Assembly, the President of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, and Tibetans from Herbertpur, Haripur, Lakhanwala, Khera, and Baluwala attended the ceremony.
The ceremony began with the offering of a butter lamp to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, followed by the singing of the Tibetan and Indian National Anthem and ceremony. The attendees were served traditional Tibetan sweet rice and butter tea. The Settlement Officer Dolma Tsering addressed the importance of the Resolve Tibet Act & Kasur Choekyong Wangchuck gave a keynote speech on the chronology of the act passing into law and the significance of same in promoting the Sino-Tibetan Dialogue.
The program concluded with a hearty Tibetan circle dance.
