DHARAMSHALA: Dr Tsering Wangchuk, Kalon of the Department of Health, Central Tibetan Administration today inaugurated the new private OPD (Outpatient Department) of the Tibetan Delek hospital. The inauguration was also attended by Health Secretary Shosur Sonam Choephel.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kalon Tsering Wangchuk extolled the importance of a healthy lifestyle and urged the Tibetan public to fully utilise the healthcare services provided by Delek hospital.
“We conduct various health programs through Delek hospital. For example: TB precaution and treatment is one of Delek Hospital’s most important programs. Therefore, through the collective effort of health department and Delek hospital, we are doing our best to provide the best of facilities for treatment and precaution of TB in the community,” he said.
“Our department’s other major program is the mother & child health program. Delek hospital provides the necessary Pre and Post natal care , ultrasound check ups, immunisation of children below 5 years, etc for the Tibetans residing in Dharamshala and nearby areas. Therefore, Delek Hospital’s contribution towards public health is immensely significant, ” he added.
He also urged Tibetan elders, poor families, former Tibetan political prisoners and, retired and current Tibetan civil servants to avail the health benefits provided by the health department for them.
Dr Tseten Dorjee Sadutsang, personal physician of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Chief Medical Officer of Delek hospital, spoke about the importance of regular health check ups to secure a healthy life.
Regular health check-ups and a healthy lifestyle can prevent most of the diseases. Early detection of diseases and timely health advice will allow you to enjoy a better and healthier life, he said.
Mr Dawa Phunkyi, chief administrator of Delek Hospital, said that Delek hospital is purely a non-profit organisation and the new OPD is aimed solely to serve the healthcare needs of the Tibetan public.
He also launched three health-plan services initiated by the Delek hospital to cater to growing healthcare needs of the Tibetan public.
The health plan services include General Health Check-Up, Comprehensive Health Check-Up and Additional Special tests. Mrs Tsering Peldon, a senior nurse at the Tibetan Delek Hospital is the chief co-ordinator for these health plan services.
