
Health Department Concludes Free Eye Screening and Treatment Programme for Tibetans across Settlements.
Dharamshala: The Department of Health successfully concluded a free eye screening and treatment programme for Tibetans in Miao, Tezu, Tenzingang, Tuting and Odisha settlements in coordination with the Miao Tibetan Primary Health Center and Odisha Hospital.
This programme was implemented through the generous funding provided by the Tibet Fund. In the northeast settlements, PHC Miao in collaboration with a technician team from Drishti Netralaya eye home conducted the free eye screening through a mobile set-up van in the Miao, Tezu and Tuting settlement.
A similar programme was organised in Tenzingang by hiring a private eye doctor. In Odisha, Menlha Hospital in collaboration with NAITRIKA Super Specialist Eye Care implemented the programme. Following the screening, settlement residents received free eye spectacles, treatments and surgery support based on their diagnosis through this programme. Both Drishti Netralaya and Naitrika provided discounts on eye surgeries. A total of around 645 Tibetans in the Northeast and 191 Tibetans in the Odisha settlement benefitted from the programme and 33 individuals in Odisha & 47 Tibetans received free eye surgery. In the Northeast, 404 Tibetans received free eye spectacles to correct and improve their vision. In conclusion, the eye camp not only helped improve the overall eye health of Tibetans through early diagnosis and timely treatment but also brought awareness about the importance of regular eye care.
