New Delhi: Addressing a galaxy of Indian Scholars, the Governor of Karnataka state Shri T.N. Chaturvedi said that the root causes of war and peace are related to human consciousness and awareness. He further said that these are related to how man handles the environment. Quoting His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he said, “there are limits to the tolerance of mother earth to our irresponsibility”. The Governor said that this explains His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s thoughts on the interdependence between nature and human beings.
The Governor of Karnataka state was speaking yesterday at the conclusion session of the two-day conference on Global Peace through Universal Responsibility, which is part of a series of a year-long events organised by the Central Tibetan Administration to express the Tibetan people’s profound appreciation and gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the occasion of his 70th birth anniversary.
Speaking on the theme of non-violence and universal responsibility, Dr. Radha Burnier, International President of the Theosophical Society based in Chennai, quoting Krishnamurti said that violence should not be considered just physical. Harsh speech should also be recognised as a form of violence because harsh speech creates division in the world. She explained this by saying that the way we talk forms the character of our children.
Dr. L.M. Singhvi spoke about the issues of peace, war and universal responsibility in his inaugural address for the first day of the conference on 6 November in New Delhi. Other eminent speakers who shared the wisdom and knowledge were Prof. Daya Krishna, Prof. G.C. Nayak, Dr. Ravindra Varma, Dr. Satish Inamdar, Prof. Krishnanath, Gen. Vinod Saighal (Retd.), Prof. Ramesh Chandra Tewari, and Shri Balmiki Prasad Singh.
