
Dharamshala: As part of the ongoing Year of Compassion celebrations commemorating the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile organised an insightful exhibition titled “Democracy: A Gift of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Tibetan People” at the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV), Gopalpur, Himachal Pradesh on 16 April 2026.
The exhibition commenced at 9:00 AM in the presence of the school’s Headmaster Dawa Gyatso, along with teachers and students, setting a reflective and educational tone for the day. The inaugural moment underscored the importance of engaging younger generations with the historical and political journey of the Tibetan people.
Following the opening, staff members from the Parliamentary Secretariat delivered engaging introductory sessions, guiding students and teachers through the exhibition’s key themes. These briefings provided valuable insights into the visionary leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the gradual evolution of democratic governance within the Tibetan community in exile.
The exhibition gallery remained open to visitors until 4:00 PM, allowing ample time for students to explore the displays, archival materials, and educational panels at their own pace. Over 450 students and teachers from TCV Gopalpur visited the exhibition, reflecting enthusiastic participation and keen interest. The event significantly contributed to raising awareness about the lifelong contributions of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, while also deepening understanding of the milestones and development of Tibetan democracy.
As part of the year-long Year of Compassion initiative, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has successfully organised thirteen exhibitions at prominent institutions and locations, including the Main Temple of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (Tsuglagkhang, Dharamshala), Sambhota Tibetan School (Shimla), Gaiety Theatre Art Gallery (Shimla), Himachal Pradesh University (Shimla), Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi), St. Stephen’s College (Delhi), Tibetan Youth Hostel (Delhi), Panjab University (Chandigarh), Lovely Professional University (Punjab), Government College (Dharamshala), the College for Higher Tibetan Studies (Dharamshala), Upper Tibetan Children’s Village (Dharamshala), and Tibetan Children’s Village (Gopalpur).
The organizing team from the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat comprised of staff members Tenzin Choeying, Choedak, Tenzin Menkyi, Choeying Rangdol, and Tsewang Rinzin. The support and coordinated efforts of Principal Karma Sherap and students at the school ensured the smooth and impactful execution of the exhibition.
