Ladakh: Education Kalon (Minister) Tharlam Dolma Changra kicked off her maiden official visits to Tibetan schools in Ladakh with the aim of assessing the educational landscape and engaging with students and faculty members. The Kalon was accompanied by Chief Representative Officer of Ladakh, President of the Local Tibetan Assembly, the Director and Principal of TCV Ladakh, and staff from the local Tibetan Health care centre.
The visit commenced with a thorough tour of classrooms spanning various grade levels. The Kalon keenly observed teaching methodologies, classroom dynamics, and strategies for student engagement. Her engagements included interacting with students, encouraging them to share their insights and experiences, fostering a conducive learning environment.
In addition to classroom observations, the Kalon explored essential facilities such as the library, counselling cell, computer lab, and science labs. She also visited resource rooms which are equipped with specialised educational materials and teaching aids, and school’s dental clinic where she interacted with nursing staff and acknowledged their crucial role in student welfare. The Kalon further toured hostels and homes, kitchen, dining hall, and football ground, gaining a holistic understanding of the school’s operations and student life. Additionally, the school presented a short video on the history of TCV Ladakh, produced by its students.
A significant portion of the visit was dedicated to TCV’s Special School and its hostel, where students with special needs receive education. The Kalon observed specialised teaching techniques employed by teachers and personally expressed gratitude for their dedication and compassion towards students with diverse learning requirements. Furthermore, the Kalon visited TCV’s old age home, interacting with residents and touring their living quarters.
During the tour, discussions were held regarding the challenges faced by the school and its urgent requirements. The Director of TCV Ladakh articulated these concerns, highlighting the need for support and resources to enhance the educational experience for students.
