Ladakh: The Practical Life Workshop, organised by the Department of Education (CTA), concluded successfully on 25 May 2024. This workshop, designed for pre-primary teachers from TCV schools in Ladakh, was held at TCV Ladakh from 15 to 25 May 2024.
The closing program of the workshop, which commenced at 1:30 pm on 25 May 2024, was attended by Tenzin Dorjee, Head of the Academic Section; Diwo Lhamo Pemba, the training facilitator; Dhondul Jigme, Principal of TCV Ladakh; Members of the TCV School Management Committee; and the 20 workshop participants. In his closing remarks, Tenzin Dorjee expressed appreciations to Diwo Lhamo Pemba for facilitating the entire workshop, Sally Connellan for generously funding it, and Principal Dhondul Jigme for making all the necessary arrangements to effectively organise the event. He emphasised the significance of the workshop and encouraged the teachers to apply their learning in their classrooms, ensuring the benefit of the children under their care. Both the workshop trainer, Lhamo Pemba, and Principal Dhondul Jigme, in their speeches, also stressed the importance of implementing their new knowledge in the classroom. After that, certificates were distributed to the participants. At the end, both the head teacher and assistant head teacher of pre-primary, in their feedback, expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in organising the workshop in Ladakh. They mentioned that they learned many new concepts and were able to resolve their doubts. On behalf of all the participants, they pledged to do their best to apply what they had learned throughout the workshop.
Earlier, on 15 May, coinciding with her visit to the TCV Schools in Ladakh, Education Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra met the workshop trainer and participants, and inaugurated the workshop. In her inaugural speech, Honourable Kalon emphasised the crucial role of pre-primary and primary teachers in laying the foundation for children’s learning. She stressed the importance of enhancing children’s abilities to prepare them for future challenges. The opening program was attended by CRO Tashi Dhondup, Director Tenzin Rabten and Principal Dhondul Jigme of TCV Ladakh, and concerned DOE staff.
Throughout the 10-day workshop, participants explored a brief biography of Dr. Maria Montessori, engaged in practical life activities, personal and environmental care, grace and courtesy, and other essential components through hands-on learning experiences. Under the guidance of the Department of Education, the workshop was coordinated by the Principal of TCV School Ladakh.
