Dharamshala: The Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration congratulates Tenzin Yeshi and Kunga Legjung for scoring more than 500 in the recently conducted all-India National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET).
The qualifying score of 147 out of 720 is mandatory to get admission in medical colleges across the country, were declared on 16 October.
41 Tibetan students applied for the 6 MBBS reserved seats offered to Tibetan Refugee students by the Government of India and State Govt of Himachal Pradesh. Out of the lot, 32 cracked the test of which the girls outshined the boys with the strength of 23 against 9.
For the first time, two Tibetan students have scored more than 500 since the introduction of NEET exam by Medical Council of India in 2013.
Tenzin Yeshi from TCV Selakui who scored 541/720 is a 2019 Class XII graduate. He took a gap year for coaching and is under DoE’s Gap Year Scholarship Program funded by US Aid. His centre also prides of his excellent performance. Hoardings of his name are seen everywhere in Dharamshala.
Kunga Legjung is from Tibetan Homes Foundation Mussoorie and he has scored 503/720. He is a fresh Class XII graduate and also a recipient of the Sikyong Scholarship of this year scoring 99.2 in Class XII.
Commending on the excellent performances of the students, Education Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen said “I congratulate both the candidates for performing extremely well and cracking the test with very high marks. You two will be a role model for young students aspiring to be doctors. Your hard work has paved a way to success”.
At present, we have 32 students pursuing MBBS in various medical colleges of which 20 are girls and 12 boys.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (or NEET (UG)), formerly the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate medical courses (MBBS) and dental courses (BDS) in government or private medical and dental colleges in India. Every year more than 15 lac student seat for this exam in India.
