DHARAMSHALA: This year the distribution of Gaden Phodrang Merit award, Sikyong Award for academic accomplishment and Sikyong Award certificate was held during the commemoration of the 56th anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day on 2 September 2016 in Dharamshala.
The Gaden Phodrang merit award was presented to eleven students comprising of the top three students from Science, Arts and Commerce streams from different Tibetan schools. Miss Tenzin Tsomo of TCV Selakui was topper among science stream with 94.2% followed by Miss Tenzin Dechen of CST Kalimpong with 91% and Mr Tenzin Sonam from TCV Selakui with 89.6%. From Arts stream, Mr Tenzin Phuntsok from THF Mussorrie was topper with 92.8% followed by Miss Tenzin Bhuti and Tenzin Nordin from TCV Suja with 91.6 and Miss Dawa Choedon from TCV Bylakupee with 91%. From Commerce stream, Miss Tenzin Nordon of Upper TCV have topped with 88%, followed by Miss Tenzin Namdol from CST Mundgod with 83.6% and Mr Tenzin Yega and Miss Thinley Wangmo from Upper TCV with 83.4% respectively. The Gaden Phodrang award include a merit certificate and a cash prize of 20,000 INR, 15000 INR and 10,000 INR for the top three recipients respectively.
Five Tibetan PhD students were also presented with Sikyong Award for Academic accomplishment which include a sum of INR 20,000 along with a certificate of appreciation. The three PhD students were Dr Tenzin Namgha of Christ University, Bangalore who have come up with a study on Socio-Economic Impact of Remittance on Forward Migrants Household of Tibetan Refugees in India; Dr Dechen Dorjee of Central University of Tibetan Studies who came up with the study on Analytical Study of Tibetan Syntax and Dr Rigzin Dorjee from Madras University who came up with a study on Politics and Administration of Tibetan government-in-Exile: A Political Analysis in Perspective of Efficiency. Dr Jampa Chophel from Central University of Tibetan Studies came up with a study on Analyzing the Geocentric and Heliocentric Model as per Kalachakra Tradition. Dr Tenzin Desal of Mysore University have come up with the study on Socio-economic and Fertility Status of Tibetan Communities in South India and Impact of Migration.
Sikyong Award Certificate were given to two student who have score more than 95% in class twelve this year. Mr Tenzin Dorjee of Narayana Junior College Hyderabad and Mr Tsering Nyendak Lama of Wynberg- Allen School, Mussorrie who have scored have scored 96.79 % and 96% respectively.
