Cape Town: Geshe Lobsang Dhondup, Culture Officer of the Office of Tibet attended a 2-Day Summit of African Leaders from 13 to 14 August in Cape Town. Many African leaders gathered in Cape Town including Her Majesty Semane Bonolo Molotlegi, Bafokeng Nation.
The peace summit was organised by Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL) and its Chairperson Man Hee Lee who has travelled around the world to encourage leaders and public to adopt the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) framework for ending conflicts in the world.
The HWPL, together with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and partners, lobbying with international leaders for adoption of the declaration the UN.
Geshe la actively took part in many of the round table discussions especially on thematic topic such as finding common ground of different religious scriptures of the world. He forcefully advocated for mainstreaming of ethical and emotional education in the schools and parents and society at large.
Every session was concluded by repeating in loud voice – WE ARE ONE! WE WANT PEACE! slogans which created and infused a powerful sense of unity among the participants.
On 14 August, Geshe la also gave a short teaching on Buddhism at Lourensford Retreat Center, Somerset West which was attended by more than 300 people.
On the 15 August, he was escorted by members of Tibet Group.
