Dharamshala: Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) observed the World Health Day on Wednesday afternoon in Gangchen Kyishong, Dharamsala. Organised
by the Department of Health, Dr. Sonam Dhondup of Delek Hospital,
explained the World Health Organization’s campaign entitled “1000
Cities – 1000 Lives” to the CTA staff gathered at the talk. It was
followed by a cleanliness drive around the CTA Secretariat. Dr.
Dhondup drew attention to the direct co-relation of urbanization and
health – a global priority concern. By 2050 the population in the
cities would rise by 70%, seriously challenging the healthcare of the
people. To focus on this WHO’s campaign “1000 Cities – 1000 Lives”
would involve 1000 cities to open up streets for health activities. He
further explained that 1000 stories of urban health champions would be
gathered to illustrate what people could do to improve health in their
cities.Mr. Topgyal Tsering, Additional Secretary Department of
Health, co-ordinating the event, urged all to be careful of their
health and highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups.The
World Health Day is observed throughout the world on April 7 since 1950
under the aegis of WHO to create awareness on a specific health theme
and to highlight a priority area of concern for the WHO.
