CTA Expresses Sympathy For Tsunami Victims
Dharamsala, 4 January: The Central Tibetan Administration deeply mourns the death of thousands of people in the aftermath of the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunamis in South East Asia and East Africa. The administration, on behalf of all the Tibetans, expresses its deepest sympathy for the families of the victims of the recent catastrophe. The administration held an official prayer ceremony for the victims immediately after the tragedy. The administration is gravely concerned about the enormous loss of lives and property in some Indian states and union territories.
The Chief Justice Commissioner, Justice Commissioners, kalons and the members of the Standing Committee of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies have contributed two days’ wage from their salary towards the rehabilitation of the victims. The staff of the various departments of the administration and its branch offices all over have contributed a day’s wage from their salary towards the relief of the victims. Individual contributions from the general Tibetan public will be collected through the representatives’ offices and welfare offices. The relief money thus collected will be sent to the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi to be handed over to the government of India.
The Central Tibetan Administration takes this opportunity to express its gratitude to the Indian people and their government for making the Tibetans a part of the big Indian family.
