Geneva: On 12 October 2025, Sangay Kyab, the Chinese Liaison Officer for European countries representing the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, attended the Ghoton programme at the Tibet Institute Rikon. The event was organised by the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association of Switzerland.
The gathering was attended by the Abbot of Tibet Institute Rikon, executive members of the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, monks from the institute, and local community members.
The Ghoton event was marked with the offering of long-life prayers for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, during which attendees and community members prayed together for three hours.
Following the prayer session, the Chinese Liaison Officer addressed the gathering. He commended the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association for organising the event and highlighted the historical origins of the Association, which was initially established in Tibet before the Tibetans’ flight into exile. He also acknowledged the Association’s ongoing social service and contributions within the exile community and encouraged them to continue working for the greater well-being of the Tibetan people.
He remarked, “As His Holiness the Dalai Lama has often reiterated, women are the foundation of human society, being the primary nurturers of future generations. It is equally important for the Association to recruit younger members, ensuring that the responsibilities are passed on to the next generation of Tibetan women.”
The event concluded successfully with a brief Buddhist teaching delivered to the gathering later in the evening by the Abbot of the Tibet Institute Rikon.
