Zurich: The Chinese Liaison Officer, Sangay Kyab, from the Tibet Bureau Geneva attended the Ghoton (90th Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama) celebration, organised by regional U-tsang Cholkha Association of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein (TCSL).
It was also attended by the Abbot and monks of Rikon Monastery, former members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, President of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, representatives from other regional Tibetan civil societies, and the members of organising U-tsang Cholkha Association.
The celebration began with offerings of Mandala and the three representations of Buddha’s body, speech, and mind, by the distinguished guests, followed by presentation of vibrant Tibetan cultural performances.
The event also featured addresses from the distinguished guests, including the President of the regional U-tsang Cholkha Association, Abbot of the Rikon Monastery, and President of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
In his talk, Chinese Liaison Officer Sangay Kyab, who is representing the Tibet Bureau Geneva, stated, “This year, under the guidance of the Kashag, we are commemorating His Holiness’ 90th birthday with a year-long celebration. As previously noted, this year has been designated the Year of Compassion. From now onward, we must actively cultivate compassion—beginning with our family, friends, colleagues, and those closest to us. Gradually, we should expand this practice to the broader society in which we live. If we begin today and continue daily, over months and through the full year, we can build the habit of compassion. And if, in two or three years—or even throughout our entire lives—we become truly compassionate individuals, then our lives will be filled with happiness. Indeed, no offering would bring greater joy to the Victorious One than this.”
He continued that the regional U-Tsang Cholkha Association has offered consistent and commendable support toward all tasks and guidance issued by the Tibet Bureau. “On this occasion, I would like to express heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Tibet Bureau, and we look forward to your continued support in the future,” he expressed.
He further said, “In general, while the turnout today may not reflect the full population of regional U-Tsang Cholkha Association, those who did attend have shown great dedication and have came with steadfast commitment—and that is truly admirable.”
Then the programme continued with various songs and performances to celebrate His Holiness’ birthday.
