Dharamshala: To honour the 79th anniversary of India’s Independence Day, themed “Naya Bharat”, the Central Tibetan Administration organised a modest ceremony at Gangchen Kyishong, celebrating the significant occasion in solidarity with the people of India.
The event saw the presence of Chief Justice Commissioner Yeshi Wangmo, Officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma Changra, the Kalon (Minister) of the Department of Education, Election Commissioner Lobsang Yeshi, Parliamentarians Tsering Yangchen and secretaries and senior officials from various departments of the Central Tibetan Administration.
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the Indian national flag by the Officiating Sikyong, followed by the rendition of the Indian national anthem.
In her address, Officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma extended heartfelt greetings on behalf of the Tibetan people in exile and inside Tibet to the Government and people of India.
She stated, “On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day of India, I extend my greetings to the Government and people of India on behalf of all Tibetans, both inside and outside Tibet. In today’s world, India stands as the largest democracy, the most populous nation, and a country making remarkable strides in economy and technology. We deeply acknowledge the sincere assistance India has extended to Tibetan refugees for over six decades.”
Reflecting on Tibet’s history, she further remarked, “When India regained its independence, just twelve years later, Tibet lost its own independence due to China’s forceful occupation, leading many Tibetans into exile. During this most difficult period in our history, the Indian government extended a helping hand, even while the country was still developing.”
She concluded by expressing gratitude for India’s continued support, stating, “What we have today for the preservation and promotion of Tibetan culture, language, and religion is due to the grace of the Indian government. Once again, I extend my warmest greetings leadership and all the people of India on this special occasion.”
