Canberra: A four-member Australian parliamentary delegation will arrive tomorrow in Dharamshala on a four-day visit, during which the delegation will have an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and meet with the leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration, including Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile. They will also visit various Tibetan educational and cultural institutions and have exchanges with representatives of Tibetan Civil societies in Dharamshala.
On 10 March, the delegation will attend the official commemoration function of the 65th Tibetan National Uprising Day to express their solidarity and support for the non-violent struggle of Tibetan people to regain their rights and dignity.
The delegation comprises Senator Dean Smith, Co-Chair of the Australian All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet and member of the Liberal party; Hon. Michael McCormack MP, a former Deputy Prime Minister who belongs to the National Party; and Senator Deborah O’ Neill and MP David Smith, both members of the Labor party.
Representative Karma Singey of the Canberra-based Tibet Information Office and Dr. Zoe Beford of the Australia Tibet Council will accompany the group.
