Canberra: On 10 March 2025, on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising day, the City Council of Maribyrnong in Victoria, for the first time, raised the Tibetan national flag in front of its office to express solidarity and support for the voices of Tibetan people and marked the Tibetan National Uprising Day.
The flag-raising ceremony was attended by former Senator and Co-chair of Australia Tibetan Council Janet Rice and Ex-Councillor Simon Crawford, who moved the motion for raising the Tibetan national flag and encouraged Tibetans to never lose hope and to continue working together in unity so that the Tibetan national flag can be raised throughout the world.
Blue Mountains City Council in New South Wales also raised the Tibetan flag to mark the anniversary of National Uprising Day against the Chinese occupation of Tibet. The Blue Mountains City Council has been hosting the Tibetan national flag every year on the Tibetan National Uprising Day since 2019.
Tibetan communities across Australia organised peaceful rallies and marches in protest against China’s continued political repression in Tibet since its illegal invasion. Many of the prominent Australian politicians and Tibet supporters, including former Senator Janet Rice, ACT Attorney General MLA Shane Rattenbury and Friends of Tibet, attended the commemoration day with the Tibetan communities in their respective regions.
