
BRUSSELS: Choerig Zinkyong organised the 9th Anniversary of its weekend Tibetan school, Jamyang Lophel, on 5 July in Antwerp, Belgium. The day was also celebrated as the 82nd Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Representative Tashi Phuntsok, Office of Tibet (OOT), Belgium was the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Mr Thutop Namgyal, Secretary, OOT. Hundreds of children and parents participated in the celebration.
Director Lobsang Wangdu gave a brief introductory speech. It was followed by reading of accounts by Vice President Jigme.
Representative Tashi Phuntsok congratulated the staff, the children and the parents for their resilience and determination in making so much progress. He called for comprehensive and modern approach in getting the children to learn Tibetan language and culture. He further made his plea that the next generation of Tibetan children in Belgium should be able to reach the same standards in education as other Belgian children.
The organisation runs 6 schools, with over 25 classes, in different cities in Belgium, namely Antwerp, Brussels, Leuven, Ostende, Gent and Bruge. With over 300 children on the roll, 50 staff and teachers manage the school.
The meritorious children from each school were awarded certificates. Merit certificates and portraits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama were awarded to those who were in the overall honour roll of the combined schools, separately.
