TORONTO: Kalon for Home Affairs Dolma Gyari was accorded official welcome by the Tibetan community in Toronto.
Norbu Tsering, Member of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from North America, Representative of Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario (CTA) and Tibetan Canadian Cultural Center (TCCC), Tamdin Phuntsok, welcome Kalon Dolma Gyari on her arrival at the Toronto Airport on 13 July.
Later in the evening, Kalon Dolma Gyari visited the Gangchen Choedheling Center where President Kunsang Tanzin briefed her about on-going project at the Center, followed by meeting both the new and former executive members of CTAO and TCCC. The meeting mainly focussed on policies of the Central Tibetan Administration under new political leadership of Dr Lobsang Sangay, and importance of project of resettlement of 1000 Tibetan refugees from Arunachal Pradesh to Canada. The board members also expressed their point of concern and other important points.
Kalon addressed the public meeting on 14 July with greetings from the Kashag and includes policies of the Central Tibetan Administration, consistent efforts of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to democratise the Tibetan administration and its institution, importance of the resettlement project. She further emphasised the idea of adopting a Tibetan settlement in India by a Tibetan community in Canada for economic assistance. The meeting was ended with frank and candid question and answer session.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Kalon met briefly with former Home Kalon Lobsang Nyima, former Justice commissioner Thupten Tashi and other former CTA officials. The general public have expressed appreciation for the Kalon’s visit.
