
Geneva: Representative Ngodup Dorjee of the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, attended the opening ceremony of the year 2017-2018 museum exhibition titled ‘Tibet: Textile treasures from the land of Snow Lions’ launched by Mrs. Nora Kircher and Mr. Timur B. Kircher of Gieselwerder, Germany on 23 April 2017.
This exhibition will showcase Tibet’s unique cultural identity from April 2017 to October 2018 in this private owned museum of Kircher family. The objective of this program is to create awareness on Tibet’s rich cultural identity in the local areas. This private owned museum has a huge collection of articles related with Tibetan Buddhist culture, way of life and of other cultural identity of other communities preserved over two generations.
Representative Ngodup Dorjee introduced the present situation of Tibet under Chinese rule and policies being implemented in Tibet in a systematic destruction of culture, religious and linguistic identity. Representative also talked about the situation faced by Tibetans during Cultural Revolution in the 1960’s when Red Guard destroyed more than 6000 monasteries and temples in Tibet. However, he explained that under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the monasteries were rebuilt in exile and is presently flourishing more than before in India and the world. He expressed that the principle reasons for Tibet’s fiery protest of self-immolations are: Political Repression – Chinese Communist leader’s views of and Policies on Tibet; Cultural Assimilation – Destruction of Tibetan Buddhism; Social Discrimination – Strangling the Tibetan language; Environment Destruction – Tibetan Nomads and ending their way of life; and Economic Marginalisation – Population transfer and western China Development Programme.
Finally, Representative Ngodup Dorjee expressed deep gratitude to Mr. & Mrs. Kircher for organizing such a significant event in support of Tibet and offered white scarves to signify heartfelt thanks on behalf Tibetans and urged for more support in this critical situation of Tibet’s freedom struggle.
The program has been attended by Mayor Cornelius Turrey of Gieselwerder who gave introduction remarks says it’s so proud to have such important museum being located under his jurisdiction and specially exhibition being launched on Tibet is an extraordinary event of Gieselwerder. Other dignitaries present were Ms. Susanne Selbert, Vice-Councilor of Kassel District including Ms. Dr. Urlike Admek, Chairman of North-Hesse and Association of the Museums in Hesse.
Around 100 local people gathered in this program and Tibetan Community of Deutschland has organized Tibetan cultural shows.
