OTTAWA: Kalon Dolma Gyari is in Canada for a two-week visit to visit the Tibetan communities in Canada for the grand celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday, and to meet Canadian officials for the Tibetan Resettlement Project.
Kalon Dolma Gyari was received by Kasur Tashi Wangdi and colleagues on her arrival in Ottawa.
She was taken on a private tour of the both upper house and lower house (Senate) of the Parliament on 5 July. She met with Mr Scott Reid, Chair of the Sub-Committee on International Human Rights, and Mr David Kilgour, former federal cabinet minister and international human rights advocate to discuss about current situation inside Tibet which includes the tragic self-immolation incidents.
She also met with Gerrit Nieuwoudt, Director of Policy for the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturism, for specific discussion on the resettlement of Tibetan refugees from Arunachal Pradesh.
Kalon Dolma Gyari joined the celebration of His Holiness’s 77th birthday on 6 July.
She met with Mr David Sweet, member of parliament, and staff members of parliamentary friends of Tibet. She also met with representatives of Department of Foreign affairs and International trade.
She is currently visiting Tibetan community in Vancouver from 7 – 8 July. She will visit Calgary to meet with the Tibetan community and Jason Kenney, Canadian Minister for Citizenship, Immigration & Multiculturism.
