DHARAMSHALA: His Holiness the Dalai Lama today inaugurated Fortis Healthcare Limited, a 95-bedded multi-speciality hospital located in Kangra, about 19 kms from Dharamsala.
The hospital has three well-equipped operation theatres, several intensive care units, including a 24-hour emergency and critical care unit, complete obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, urology, dialysis, cardiac services and maternity unit.

Speaking on the inauguration ceremony, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said he witnessed much improvement in education and healthcare facilities in Dharamsala and its adjoining areas during the last 52 years of his stay. These are further developing and it is an encouraging sign. Facilities such as heart surgery at this new hospital is wonderful, he said.
Mr Shivinder Mohan Singh, executive vice-chairman of Fortis hospital, said the hospital aims to bring quality and affordable healthcare for the people in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr G S Bali, MLA and former minister, said that the hospital is well located within the city on the main road connecting Kangra to Dharamsala, Mcleod Ganj and Palampur and will therefore provide quality healthcare to a wide catchment.
