DHARAMSHALA: Khenpo Choedak Gyatso, a Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile elected from the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism, has resigned on account of health reasons.
The Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat in a statement issued on 25 May said Khenpo Choedak Gyatso, a member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament in Exile, has submitted his resignation to the Parliament Speaker on 24 May.
In his resignation letter, Khenpo Choedak Gyatso said that he was honoured to receive the opportunity to serve the Tibetan cause for a year after being elected as an MP. He said, however, due to the inability to recover from persistent health problems and as advised by the doctors, he was compelled to resign from his parliamentary post to get medical treatment. He has sought resignation from 1 June 2012.
The Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat has asked the Election Commission if any shortlisted candidates has the stipulated percentage of votes to replace him. The Election Commission has responded in the affirmative.
