DHARAMSHALA: Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, Deputy Speaker of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, was interviewed on Monday August 22 by Mr Sumit Sharma, Program Executive of All India Radio, and Ms Nisha Katoch, Bureau Chief of Sunami Times, Himachal Pradesh and President of National Press Union of Himachal Pradesh.
The interview primarily focused on the present situation in Tibet, the role of the Indian people in the Tibetan struggle, and the recent press conference organized by the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat on August 20, 2016.
Underlining the need for creating awareness about Tibetan issues among the Indian public, the Deputy Speaker said, “Indian brothers and sisters in Himachal Pradesh should know more about Tibet since the state has been hosting both His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration for the past 57 years.”
“A lot of people are also coming from all over the world to visit Dharamshala and Himachal Pradesh; therefore, the local people should make optimal use of this opportunity,” Phuntsok suggested.
Kotach, a long time supporter of the Tibetan cause, published a memoir in Sunami Times on His Holiness the Dalai Lama in July on the latter’s 81st birthday.
In addition, All India Radio is commencing a fortnightly program on Tibet and its culture titled “Tibet and World”, where influential Tibetans and Tibet experts will appear on the show.
