DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile congratulated Hon’ble Theresa May on her appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
“On behalf of all Tibetans in and outside Tibet, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile would like to congratulate you on assuming the responsibility of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, Deputy Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile wrote in his congratulatory letter.
“We see a bright future for the UK under your leadership. We wish you success in all of your endeavours.”
Expressing gratitude to the UK leadership for their support, Deputy speaker said, “We are very thankful of UK’s support for the Tibet cause. We deeply appreciate former Prime Minister, Hon’ble David Cameroon meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2012. The United Kingdom being one of the few countries Tibet had dealings with in its modern periods as well as one of the most important witnesses to the Chinese communist invasion of our country, UK’s support is of special significance to us.”
“We hope you will support the Tibet cause that we struggle to resolve to through Middle Way Approach that seeks a mutually beneficial long-lasting negotiated settlement with the Chinese government,” he concluded.
Theresa May has been appointed prime minister at an audience with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace last Wednesday. She is the second female prime minister of the United Kingdom after Margaret Thatcher.
