MEXICO CITY: A three-day intensive workshop for Tibet supporters was held in Mexico City from February 17th to 19th this year.
The workshop was conducted by the ITN’s International Coordinator, Tenzin Jigme, and Latin American Regional Coordinator, Exa Mendez, and facilitated by CTA’s Liaison Officer to Latin America, Tsewang Phuntso.
Thirty participants representing Pensando en Tibet (TSG) from six Mexican cities participated in the workshop. These cities included Mexico City, Morelia, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cuernavaca, and Aguascalientes.
The workshop commenced with a brief introduction about the workshop by Exa Mendex and followed by an hour-long briefing by Tsewang Phuntso on the current situation in Tibet, including a wave of self-immolations that has recently occurred in Tibet and the Chinese government policy and intensified repressions in Tibet.
The three-day workshop focused on training in strategic action planning, media handling, and non-violence activisms.
While dealing with the strategic action planning, Exa and Tenzin Jigme focused their workshop on analyzing the situation inside Mexico, understanding difference between goals, strategy, and tactics in action planning, and prioritizing actions to be adopted in the respective places. They also emphasized on action plans that are practical and
detailed in planning.
In his presentation on the dealing with media, a Mexican media expert, Mr. S. Santana, gave hands on tools on writing media invitation, press release, news feeds, and maintaining constant relationship with the media persons.
Mr. Santana emphasized that any information that is sent out to the media must be short, precise, clear and concise. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining constant contact and relationship with media persons.
As a part of the exercise at the workshop, Mr. Santana let the participants to compile a contact list of important Mexican media persons.
Before concluding the workshop, Mr. Ricardo Villagomez, a member of Pensando en Tibet in Mexico City gave a detail presentation about revised structure and action plan of the Pensando en Tibet.
