DHARAMSHALA: A US Congressional delegation led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi left Washington on Thursday, 5 November for an official trip to China that will focus on economic growth, national and cyber security, climate change and human rights.
“Our delegation travels to China seeking to expand cooperation between our nations in advancing economic growth and confronting the climate crisis that threatens our world,” Pelosi said in a statement.
The lawmakers plan to meet with local government officials, students and other individuals.
In addition to Ms. Nancy Pelosi, members of the delegation include Representatives Betty McCollum (D-MN), Timothy Walz (D-MN), Joyce Beatty (D-OH), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Jim McGovern (MA) who is also the chair of the bipartisan Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.
The trip comes amid concerns on Chinese attempts to hack into US Corporate accounts and the upcoming COP21 global climate change summit in Paris.
