
DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, the highest legislative body of the Tibetan polity today congratulated the National Dialogue Quartet of Tunisia, for winning the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize.
“On behalf of all the Tibetan people, inside and outside Tibet, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile wishes to congratulate the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet for getting the prestigious award-Nobel Peace Prize,” Speaker Penpa Tsering of the Tibetan Parliament wrote in his congratulatory letter.
“The collective contribution of the four key organizations of Tunisian civil society such as Tunisian General Labour Union, Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, Tunisian Human Rights League and Tunisian Order of Lawyers, representing Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, built a comprehensive democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine revolution, despite facing so many hardships of social unrest and terrorist attacks in Tunisia. You all have worked through the most difficult times when the democratization process in Tunisia was in an utmost danger of collapsing. You have played a major role in bringing tranquility and serenity in Tunisia. Your example has set an inspiration to the world and to those like Tibetans who are seeking freedom through nonviolence and peaceful dialogue,” he said.
“This award also goes to the people of Tunisia for their courage, unity and tolerance despite facing terrorist attacks and social unrest.Therefore this Nobel Peace Prize Award is a victory not only to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet and the people of Tunisia but a victory to justice, non-violence and humanity,” he added.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on 9 October 2015 that the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize would be awarded to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet “for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011”.
