
SOUTH KOREA: Tibet House Korea-under the jurisdiction of Liaison office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama based in Tokyo, Japan- celebrated the 80th Birthday of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama on August 30, 2015 at Yoresan temple in Seoul, South Korea.
The delayed celebration was due to the recent outbreak of H9N2 avian influenza virus in Korea.
The celebration started with a long life prayer offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama with nearly 600 Korean people in attendance and other Tibetans living in Korea, followed by ceremonial scarf offering to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Ven. Geshe Namka, chairperson Tibet House Korea, welcomed the guest and spoke on how fortunate Tibetans are to have His Holiness as leader, who is recognized world-wide as a man of peace, wisdom and compassion.
Kyabjey Yongzin Ling Rinpoche – chief guest on this special occasion – in his opening speech recalled His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s tireless efforts to fulfill His three main commitments in life: promotion of human values, promotion of religious harmony and increased awareness and preservation of Tibet’s Buddhist culture. Because of His unflagging devotion to these goals, millions of people around the globe admire and love Him. Throughout the world, regardless of nationality, race and religion, millions of citizens consider His Holiness to be a beacon of peace and justice. This is His Eminence Kyabjey Yongzin Ling Rinpoche’s 6th visit to Korea.
Mr. Lungtok – Representative for South East Asia & Japan- remarked that by the grace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama the issue of Tibet has continued to remain alive and relevant in the international consciousness. Inside Tibet situation is very grieve and serious but Central Tibetan Administration is trying its best to resolve through Middle Way Approach. For this Korean peoples support is necessary.
He expressed his gratitude to Korean people, especially to Yorasan Temple and Abbot Jungu sunim for their unwavering support to the cause of Tibet. He also thanked the followers of Tibetan Buddhism for their continued love and support.
The guest enjoyed the cultural performances, His Holiness birthday songs and Tibetan songs by Korean and Tibetan artist.
