
DHARAMSHALA: Jigme Tsetan, a young and dynamic Tibetan civil servant, serving as the settlement officer of Miao Choepheling settlement in Arunachal Pradesh, passed away on Friday around 9.30 pm at Sir Ganga Ram hospital, Delhi. His demise came after a prolonged illness following an unfortunate accident in early March.
The Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration expressed its deepest sorrow at the untimely demise of such a young and promising staff. A prayer service was organised to mourn the demise and all the offices of the various departments were shut from 03:00 pm as a mark of respect.
Jigme Tsetan was born in Tibet. As a child, he came to India as a refugee and was enrolled in Upper TCV school in Dharamshala where he studied till class 10. He did his +2 in Commerce from SOS TCV Bylakuppe in Karnataka state, graduating in 2004.
He continued his further studies at DAV college in Dehradun, going on to earn a Bachelors in Arts (BA), followed by Masters in Arts (MA).
He joined the Central Tibetan Administration in 2008 on the post of Office Assistant. In March of that same year, he was transferred to Kumrao Tibetan settlement in Sirmour District of Himachal Pradesh, serving till 2011.
Taking into consideration his technical qualifications, he was transferred to Tibetan Computer Resource Centre (TCRC), a subsidiary of the Department of Information and International Relations based in Dharamshala on 16 June 2011.
However, he was promoted to the post of Deputy Secretary in 2012 after clearing a civil examination conducted by the Public Service Commission of the Central Tibetan Administration. Following his promotion, he was transferred to the Department of Information and International Relations in 2013, where he served as the Protocol Officer and the in-charge of the Documentation Centre.
In January 2015, he was appointed as the Settlement Officer of Choepheling Tibetan Settlement in Miao, Arunachal Pradesh.
