DHARAMSHALA: A three-day meeting to formulate basic Buddhist syllabus for primary Tibetan schools is currently underway from 10 – 12 June at Sarah Tibetan college near Dharamshala. The meeting is convened by the Academic Section of the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, that is responsible for framing the syllabus of Tibetan schools under the administration.

The Basic tenets of Buddhism have been incorporated into the syllabus of Tibetan schools by the education department. This was done as per the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama over the last 50 years,to iinculcate Buddhism in Tibetan children outside of monastic institutions in an effort to preserve Tibet’s rich religious tradition.
The basic Buddhist syllabus for middle and secondary Tibetan schools was formalised last year after an academic meeting in November 2014.
The Buddhist syllabus for primary schools will be formalised and distributed to the schools by the end of this year.
