
DHARAMSHALA: His Eminence the Sakya Trizin Rinpoche inaugurated a new Tibetan Buddhist temple, Tsechen Kunchab Ling, in Walden, New York on 19 June.
Sakya Trizin Rinpoche said the main purpose of building this temple is to spread the teachings of the Buddha to benefit all the sentient beings.
He said, as there is rise in the number of people who have great interest in Buddhism in the western countries, so this temple was built to benefit all of such people in the city. The construction of the temple was planned in year 2000, he added.
Kasur Lobsang Nyendak Zayul, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New York, was invited on the occasion.
Applauding the successful establishment of the Buddhist temple, Representative Lobsang Nyendak said, Tibetans or people from Himalayan origins or Buddhist beleivers visits our temples. “ I beleive such relations of the people with temples have great benefit to preserve our religion, culture and nature”.
Speaking on the current political situation of Tibet, the Representative said, “We are passing through a great change in the exile community. Our final aim is to return to Tibet. To fulfil our aspiration, we have to maintain unity, and make efforts to strengthen and sustain our administration in exile”.
Around 3,000 people, including Tibetans, Mongolians, Chinese, people from Himalayan origins, Americans, friends and supporters, attended the opening ceremony.
The Sakya tradition is one of the four major religious traditions of Tibet. It came to Tibet in the 11th century.
